No, they sterilize: The state health departments absolutely require that all medical and dental instruments be sterilized or in single use packaging. This is done to protect the public from infections. The rules are very strict and there are frequent audits.

Single use: Plastic saliva ejectors (what the thing is called that you put in your mouth) are single use only. Some offices may use metal ones that are sterilized between patients.

Disposable: The plastic mouthpiece that they used is disposable, only used for one patient, then changed. It's safe and clean. If you have concerns, talk them over with Periodontist. It will make you feel a lot better.

Safe, yes: the suction tubes are generally disposable and are one use plastic devices, changed after every patient
