Betadine: Betadine is an iodine-based antiseptic, effective in treatment of some oral infections. Most gum swelling, however, caused by gum disease, which is not effectively treated by antiseptic. Not knowing the cause of your gum swelling there is no way to direct you, other than to say have your Dentist evaluate your problem and recommend the appropriate course of treatment.
