Test: You should schedule a visit with your PCP for a oral exam and throat swab. If you have white exudates could be bacterial or fungal. Also need an STD panel (gonorrhea/chlamydia)

See your doctor.: Those tests only look for HIV. They don't assess for strep, thrush, or pharyngeal gonorrhea. None of these should cause 3 months worth of symptoms in any case; you should see a doctor for evaluation as lots of other non-infectious problems can cause a persistent sore throat, including acid reflux, thyroid disorders, or postnasal drip.
