Endodontist: The endodontist who performed your root canal is best qualified to answer your question, but I don't feel that these reactions are out of the ordinary and the swelling may last a few days. However I recommend that you notify the doctor of your current status and whether he/she recommends cold applications to control facial swelling.

Swelling: Did the swelling occur after the root canal procedure, or were you swollen when you went in for your visit? Swelling may take a few days to a week to fully subside. Let your treating dentist monitor your healing.

Swelling: Since we didn't personally see you or treat you, we can't determine if the swelling is getting better or worse, when you can expect it to diminish and most importantly if you need to be seen for further treatment right away. May need change in antibiotic or drainage or just time. Please contact the dentist treating you for advice and when he/she want to see you to evaluate progress.

Contact DDS: Did the dentist leave the tooth open to drain? Was an Incision and drainage performed? Speak to your dentist about the specifics that were performed and tell the dentist you may need to be seen ASAP due to the severity of the swelling.
