Yes: It does happen with blood draws. The needle may go through the vein. When the tech pulls back into the vein you may get some blood into the subq tissue. Certain meds will make you bruise more easily. It will turn blue, green, yellow and fade away over 2 weeks. If for some reason it is way larger than you have ever seen get your doctor to look at it.

It can happen: Several factors can influence the presence of bruising at the site where blood is drawn. If one is taking meds that prolong bleeding (aspirin, NSAIDS, other Rx meds) the risk of bruising may increase. Not maintaining adequate pressure over the venipuncture site, as well as excessive physical activity can also increase the risk of bruising.
