Staph image: You may be surprised to learn that skin infections can take on a variety of different sores, redness, and such. There isn't much to go on with your question but there is not just one answer. It sounds like your ten year old was already seen by the doctor, so i would trust that.

Likely not staph: Staph would not be my first choice for that area. Group a strep or yeast would be a more likely agent. I would have your doc assess the area as the strep would have the same risk of problems as a strep throat.I have used the simple office strep test from an anal swab to confirm my suspicions.
