Different etiology: Diastsis recti is a spreading of the fascia between the two rectus abdominus muscles in the midline giving an abdominal weakness causing generalized bulging. Ventral hernia is a hernial sac with abdominal contents resulting from an abdominal wall defect causing an isolated discrete mass
