Benzocaine: It takes a few days for pain of strep throat to improve with antibiotics. In the meantime, you can try an over the counter soothing throat lozenge or syrup; look for active ingrediant benzocaine, e.g. Cepacol®. Or contact your doctor's office; perhaps she would recommend something stronger by prescription. Good luck!

See below: Try to contact your doctor. If you are not able to see her/him go to the emergency room of a nearby hospital. You should not be in pain 24 hours after start of treatment.
