A member asked:

I am due to a smear test but i am not sexually active. no oral sex either. do i still need to have this test done?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not but yes: A Pap test is still a recommended screening to women over age 25 for the early detection of cervical lesions which may become cancer. It is true that if you had never been "sexually active", the risk of a cervical problem is very low (but not zero). If you had genito-sexual intercourse with a man at any time in your life, there is unfortunately a possibility of past exposure to HPV. Be safe.
