A member asked:

A doctor on here asked me why i had a pap smear test done at 18... aren't you supposed to have a pap smear done once you're sexually active?

Recommendations: The recommendation guidelines were revised in 2006 to recommend initiation 3 years after the onset of sexual activity or age 21, whichever comes first. The former recommended age to start screening with pap smear was 18. This may be the cause for confusion. Thanks for following up and for trusting HealthTap!
