A member asked:

Should a nonsexually active woman of 26 wait to have a smear test done until she's sexually active? how high is her risk of cervical cancer at present

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low risk but possibl: In the US, the first formal pelvic exam and surveillance is recommended within the first year of sexual activity or by age 21. Further exams would be determined by the results of your initial exam and the preference of your physician. The risk of cervical cancer is low at 26 but does occur and the salvage rate for advanced stages is less than early disease.
