I never do it: Toddlers can carry strep around and never get sick from it, so presence in their throat is not definite sign of disease. The penicillin drugs used to treat strep kill it, and stop the body from creating the antibodies that trigger rheumatic fever. If a toddler comes in with fever & a raw throat I will treat a positive strep, but do not test again unless the kid comes back sick again.
