I don't understand what a bolus injection of ceftriaxone 1g is. (2) does it involve inserting the med into a canulla, not directly into a vein? (2) is it in the form of an infusion? if so, could you explain what an infusion is?

Infusion: Infusion is the term used for administration of substances into the body through veins, but also into body cavities, via tubing or catheters. Usually the rate of infusion is more gradual at so many cc's per minute. Sometimes a medication is given quickly as a bolus with a syringe inserted directly into a vein or into a port in iv tubing which is already in place. Ceftriaxone has bn given iv push

IV bolus vs infusion: 'IV bolus' injection means giving the medicine directly into the vein as one shot, while 'IV infusion', means infusing the medicine, again directly into the vein,, over a preset time peroid, hope this helps
