Get an ultrasound: When you say you had a stroke from a carotid, was it repaired, ie an endarterectomy? It is likely there is narrowing of this vessel creating a noise your doctor hears(bruit) You should get a carotid ultrasound, to see if there is a severe blockage in the carotid. If so, you may require a carotid endarterectomy or stent which can be done at fairly low risk and may prevent another stroke

It is appropriate: for you to be concerned however it sounds like your GP has referred you appropriately and you will receive the best evaluation and care. Follow the consultants recommendations fully.
