I began weight lifting heavy again after a partial menisectomy last april. is the swelling i have from using it more frequently again? will ice help?

You didn't : mention whether it's a knee, shoulder, elbow or other joint that was operated on. Swelling indicates you're probably doing too much. Stop and rest the joint. Take NSAIDs to help the swelling go down. When it's gone start slowly and gradually with LIGHT weights. Elliptical machines are safer than free weights. Allow plenty of time between sessions. If swelling returns stop. Go Slow!
