About Atarax...: In the US, the recommendation is not to use cold medications such as decongestants, antihistamines, and cough suppressants in babies or young children who have typical cold symptoms. We do use asthma medications when there are asthma symptoms, which can include wheezing, coughing, etc... Each patient and each illness has its individual characteristics, so it is hard to generalize.

I would never/ever: The main reason for congestion in young infants is their small nasal passages & the irritants they breathe in that cause drainage. These drops can thicken the drainage & make it worse. It amounts to giving you something to do to get you out of the office "happy".Review everything in babies life & exclude things that cause fragrances/ dust/odor. Wash out the nose with saline as needed.
