Adrenalectomy: High dose of steroids are givenat times, when there is concern that patient is steroid suppressed and therefore can not make sufficient steroids in the face of physiologic stress like surgery. When this happens there is low blood pressure which may result is shortness of breath due to decreased perfusion, so they give high dose prednisone to compensate for the lack of native steroids.
