A member asked:

My husband is 43 having some prostate problems was sent for a psa his results posted but i am not sure i understand this is what it says psa 1.680 ng?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: A PSA of 1.68 falls within the normal reported range of <4.0 ng/ml. However, the average or median PSA for a 43 y/o is ~0.5 ng/ml and the farther the PSA is from the median for one's age group, the higher the risk of either having prostate cancer (PCa) OR developing PCa in the future especially if African-American or a positive family hx of PCa. Would recommend a repeat PSA in 6-12 months.
