Lacrimal obstruction: If the eye looks normal , then the most common cause of this is obstruction of the tear (lacrimal) outflow. Have your pediatrician check this out; it is common in newborns (about 2%). Keep it clean and you can help it along by mild squeezing of the bridge of the nose to clear out stagnant material. Your pediatrician can advise you if you need to see a pediatric ophthalmologist.
