A member asked:

Bitewing xrays reeeally hurt because i have mandibular tori.. is there an alternative? should i find a new dentist?

X-rays: Can be difficult to position because of Tori, no matter what office has to take them. Perhaps your Dentist could use topical anesthetic. Discuss your concerns with your Dentist. If you are not satisfied with the answer, seek a second opinion.

Yes: You can have a Panoramic x-ray made or a Cone Beam Tomographic image. Neither involves a film or sensor inside your mouth, but they might not show decay as well. The cost - especially of CBT - is also an issue. Maybe ask the dentist to numb your mouth and sit for the regular films.
