Well: Usually one has to have severe biliary colicky pains in the right upper abdomen irradiating to the shoulder and back. Pain can be so severe you need to go to the er. Frequently it is associated with vomiting as well. Imaging methods should detect the presence of a stones that will make surgery a must as complications without surgery can be multiple and dangerous.
