Cxr: As a physician, tests don't make diagnosis but helps comfirm dr. Clinical suspicionbut when dr. Orders, he has to be sure there is no underlying problem, to aid in his diagnosis. They have value as diseases don't follow the book. If negative information is valuable to determine what isn't there. There are many look alike diseases. It is a tool that occasionally finds cause that symptoms suggest.

Many reasons: The chest x-ray delivers a very low radiation dose. It is a good screen for initial evaluation. A lot of valuable information can be extracted from a 2 view study. It can provide good follow-up info on a variety of conditions at relatively low cost. Yes, a ct of the chest does deliver more detail and information but at a much higher cost and radiation exposure. Often you don't need that info!
