Maximize dose: Unless you have a sensitivity from a stomach or other standpoint, maximize your Advil with 800 mg with food up every 8 hours. Also, you could alternate this with extra-strength Tylenol (500 mg), 2 pills, also every 8 hours. Some prescription "mouthwashes" can be prescribed by a physician if you are not improving in the next 1-2 days. Tongues are very sensitive but usually heal quickly

Swishes: After biting, the tongue swells and has cuts in it that can get infected. Salt water mouth swishes(cold) cand help clean and reduce swelling. Listerine swishes every 2-4 hours helps minimize infection.
