A member asked:

Is it safe to have hsg test while i'm positive for gbs (group b strep)? the gbs doesn't go away! dr says i'm a carrier, it sometimes caused uti.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not routinely done: 25 % of women carrier the GBS bacteria. After treatment with penicillin, ampicillin, cefazolin, or clindamycin GBS comes back within days.Testing before a HSG is not routinely done. If there is still a concern, antibiotics can be taken and the HSG can be performed on the second to last day of antibiotic prophylaxis. The insurance carrier may not pay for the prophylaxis.
