Cluster Headache: Anytime pain wakes you from sleep it should not be ignored. Your pain sounds vascular in nature however the stabbing nature and waking you from sleep could suggest something more serious (aneurysm). How often does this happen? See your primary care Doc ASAP. Stay away from Alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, until you are checked out by a physician.
