Hard to say: The nerves at L5 and S1 travel down the back and not the front of the thigh, so it may not be related to the surgeon. Problems in the hip joint can cause anterior thigh pain, as can inflamed lymph nodes among other possible causes. I would schedule a fu appointment with your surgeon and he will likely be able to determine the cause.
