Please suggest some important questions i can ask my doctor about physical rehabilitation following surgery or injury.

How: How soon should I start? How hard should I work at rehab? How long should I continue rehab? Outcome?

Who: Who has expertise in my post-op rehab? When do I start? When do I check back with you?

Make: Make sure you ask about how much activity you should do and what activities you should avoid.

Ask: Ask about what "full weight bearing, partial weight bearing, and gradual weight bearing mean".

Speed: Speed of recovery and return to work, side effects, occupational vs physical rehab, medical devices?

What: What physical therapist do you recommend? Is it important to do a home exercise program?

What: What is needed to get back to my level of activity? What is the timetable? What do I need to avoid?

How: How long will it last? How much will it cost? How often will I have to go? Will my insurance cover it?

Will: Will i need physical therapy? How long before i will be able to exercise at my usual level?

Approximately: Approximately how long this rehab. Would be and will my insurance be covering it?

How: How long is my rehab, and what are my limitations?

Would: Would you give me a print out of the exercises you want me to do? Am i doing the exercise right?

What: What kind of diet should I follow; when can i resume exercise and of what type?

How: How soon can i start? How often should I have it? What should I expect from it and when?

Ask: Ask what diet and/or supplements will help you heal faster.

Ask: Ask if you would qualify for inpatient rehabilitation.Ask about caregiver resources for severe inj.

Take: Take responsibility for your outcome. Ask your doctor what you can do to get the best result.

When: When can pt start after surgery/injury? How many weeks are helpful? Does pt fax progress note to doc.

Ignore: Ask the doctorfor the recommendation of a good physical therapist.How long will therapy last?
