Pleurisy: This symptom is characteristic of pleurisy which is an inflammation of the lining of the lung and is often the forerunner of pneumonia and can also occur with blood clots travelling to the lung. A pinched nerve in the rib cage can cause this discomfort but there is usually no associated cough. If symptoms persist, I recommend an examination by a physician and a chest xray may be ordered.
