TMJ Dysfunction: TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) dysfunction might be the cause of the pain. I would suggest to try chewing slowly, and to use oral pain killers as needed.

Evaulation needed: These types of issues cannot be properly diagnosed over the internet. I suggest you start by seeing a local dentist for a complete and thorough clinical exam, along with a history of your symptoms, when it started, how often, how intense, getting better or worse, etc. Although it sounds like it might be related to your TMJoint, it can also be a host of other issues. Please set up an appointment.

Temporal arteritis?: When there is jaw claudication and a tender spot, this is the first thing that must be ruled out.
