Depends: Coughs after a cold or bronchitis can persist for several weeks. If you are having fevers or shortness of breath then see a doctor. If not, but your cough is severe or lasts more than 2-3 weeks then you should see a doctor at that time.

Post viral: If you have had a recent cold, a post viral cough may linger for up to three weeks. If you not fever, shorntess of breath, wheezing, worsening, please see your PCP. At three weeks,an evaluation for chronic cough is recommended.
