Post nasal drainage: Early morning coughing is primarily designed to clear out inhaled irritants and resulting mucous buildup. Dust,fumes,perfume, food odors,etc. can accumulate in the environment.The sleeping child breathes less deeply and may accumulate some irritant effect.As they start their day the coughing and sneezing usually clears this.
