A member asked:

How should my friend (male) deal with pain when a catheter is installed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cath related pain RX: Treatment depends upon the source of the pain. Crampy, lower abdominal pain is probably spasms caused by irritation from the catheter. An antispasmodic can be prescribed if this is the case. Penile pain may be due to infection or irritation, but should be evaluated by the doctor. If associated with insertion of catheter using an anesthetic gel is helpful
