It depends: There is no one answer to your question. One would need to know what meds you have previously taken and the response or problem you had with each. A thorough history and exam is also needed. Your question is best directed at your rheumatologist if you are seeing one.

No single one: All psychiatric meds have side effects. Ssris are the treatment of choice for anxiety/depression not bc they work better than older antidepressants, but bc they have fewer side effects. For someone who is particularly sensitive to meds, it is typically helpful to start the med at 1/4-1/2 of the normal starting dose. This allows the body to adjust. This should be discussed with your doctor.

Tough spot to be in: Given your comments, I am going to assume you have tried the Prozac and effexor, (venlafaxine) etc. With my patients i try to kill as many birds with one stone so to speak. One medication that can help in phibro anxiety and depression is cymbalta. The most significant side effect that i find with this medication is sweating. It may be a small price to pay for the benefit that it could offer. Another option would be Lamictal for the depression and Gabapentin or Gabitril for the anxiety. Gabitril is also approved for fibromyalgia. These are just a few of my thoughts on the matter and need to be discussed with your treating physicians.
