It has to do with: absorption. The vitamin D supplement helps make sure you have enough vitamin D in your body to absorb the calcium properly. They don't have to be taken at the same time. The reason to split the dose of calcium is that it is absorbed best in doses of 500-600 mg or less Also, take with food which produces stomach acid aiding absorption. Drink a lot of water...calcium can be constipating. Stay well!
