Hip pain: You can take Advil 400 mg po q 6 hrs for the pain and if limping, or pain persists needs an xray per MD to check for dislocation or fracture of the head of the hip joint. see an MD and or refer to ortho MD if not better.

Bursitis. : If it's an acute pain that hurts on the outer part of the hip, that could be acute bursitis, an inflammation of the bursa about the bones within the joint. Pain in that side of the groin would be more likely to be an actual hip joint issue. If there's been any trauma recently, you may want to get an X-ray, and if this lasts more than a few weeks, an MRI may be in order.
