My left ankle has been very itchy. but i don't see any rash or bug bite there. what are some possible causes of this?

Itch: An itchy region without a rash may be caused by a patch of dry skin, slight irritability/inflammation of superficial nerves or a low grade allergic reaction or irritation from clothing or friction. Applying a cortisone type ointment to that itchy patch.
