Swollen Tongue: Good day; Glossitis is a synonym for inflammation of the tongue. Most frequently in my practice patients bite their tongues which result in pain and swelling. I've biopsied tongues in diagnosing Lipomas; referring these patients to oral surgeons. Other causes of swollen tongue include genetic disorders, malignancy, metabolic diseases.
