A member asked:

What causes inflammation of the tongue papilae and how can it be prevented/cured?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Glossitis: Inflammation of the tongue may be caused by iron deficiency or vitamin B12 deficiency. Sometimes it can be an intolerance of certain toothpastes. Try maalox mouth washes and taking a multivitamin with iron. If symptoms persist see an oral surgeon or otolaryngologist for evaluation.
