Cat allergen: Cat allergen has been detected in hospital dust, as cats are typically not allowed in hospitals, it is assumed that it is carried there on the clothing of cat owners. Very small amounts of cat allergen can be a problem for some severely allergic patients. Allergy testing by blood work can typically identify those who are the most severely allergic. Testing is recommended to help confirm allergy.

Yes it's possible: People who own cats (& sometimes dogs ) often have cat hair and dander on their clothes. I can't be sure if itv caused the hives for your son... But if you know he is allergic to cats it's possible. Did he get any mother symptoms? Ie.: sneezing , runny nose itchy eyes etc. ?
