PPI is better: Over-the-counter proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec (omeprazole) or Nexium (esomeprazole) can protect the stomach from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Advil (ibuprofen)/Aleve (naproxen). H2 blockers like Zantac (ranitidine)/Pepcid (famotidine) at double dose are less effective, & protect only the duodenum, not the stomach. Antacids like Tums (calcium carbonate) are inadequate for this purpose.
