A member asked:

How can girls have scoliosis? will they have it for the rest of their lives? do they have to have surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Just happens: Much of scoliosis is idiopathic, meaning it occurs for unknown reasons. It is seen more often in the rapid growth spurts, similar to the spring early growth of plants. This rapid growth may deviate from expected. Most cases are minimal, stabilize after growth stops, and need no treatment. Some are moderate and need bracing until growth stops, rare cases will go to surgery.
