No: As for any major spinal procedure there are risks, however if your surgeon performs scoliosis type surgeries routinely, than surgery should not be dangerous.

Variea: First, it depends on the size of the curve and the underlying health of the patient. There are certain syndromes that have scoliosis as a feature that also have other significant health issues including the heart, for example. Very large curves can affect lung function. For more simple curves needing surgery in a healthy teenagers or young adults the risks are amall done by a spine surgeon.

Potentially: Any surgery has its inherent risks and potential benefits. Spine surgery can be very beneficial but involves an area that is very delicate and vital to quality of life. Consult a treating surgeon with the expertise and communication skills to provide comprehensive education about all the risks and benefits for one's condition, to allow for an educated, informed decision about scoliosis surgery.
