What to do: Please do not rely on dentists or physicians to answer your question, sight unseen. If you are being seen by a dentist, he/she will know the best antibiotic, dosage and frequency for you. If you try to do it on your own, it will not only be ineffective since the cause of the infection must be treated for success, but the infection will return with a vengeance even if it seems to subside.

Treatment?: What is the treatment for the tooth in question? Is it a periodontally involved tooth that is hopeless, or is it a tooth that requires root canal therapy, or a tooth that needs RCT retreatment? The cause of the abscess needs to be addressed. Your dentist should resolve the cause of the problem and chances are you will have no further infection. If you do, however, let your dentist decide.
