The trochlea: is located at the end of the femur (long bone of the thigh) and is the groove where the patella (knee cap) moves when the knee is flexed. There may be alterations in this groove which contribute to recurrent patellar dislocation. A trochleoplasty reshapes/corrects this groove. It is difficult, done rarely, can fail, and should only be done by orthopedists with special expertise.
