Throat soreness: Almost always such throat discomfort is caused by infection(viral, strep, mono). If symptoms persist beyond a few days or worsens, a throat culture is indicated to check for a strep infection which would require a course of antibiotics. In the meantime, gargle with warm salt water and use throat lozenges for relief.
