Virus?: Tonsillitis is inflammation/infection of tonsils. We also refer to it as pharyngitis. Most often, it's caused by a virus, which will not respond to antibiotics. In other words, it'll take same amount of time to get over it regardless of whether you take antibiotics or not. Sore throat: Likely viral in nature, but should be seen by physician in order to have throat swabbed for strep as that is easily treatable with antibiotics.
