Normal: The temporary is probably not sealing the tooth completely. This should pass with the final restoration.

See DDS: See your dentist to make sure the bite is not high, excess cement or the need for root canal therapy. In addition if an impression was taken, the surrounding gum tissue may be sore. See your DDS for a definitive diagnosis.

Temporary Crowns: It's normal for a tooth to be somewhat sensitive after being drilled on. Temporary crowns do not seal the tooth as well as permanent crowns which may also account for some sensitivity. Best to call your dentist to make sure this is normal for what you had done.

See your dentist: Extreme sensitivity, especially to hot, is a sign that the tooth's nerve may be compromised. See your dentist to adjust or remake the temporary crown to make sure it is well sealed. Your dentist should refer you to an endodontist if the problem does not resolve BEFORE the final crown is placed.
