A 25-year-old male asked:
If someone was drinking alcohol every other day over limit, would liver blood tests usually be abnormal if some sort of damage is occurring?

Over limit??: which limit is that. The safe limit for drinking in men is no more than 2 standard drinks (2 12 oz. beers, 2 5 oz. wineglasses of standard wine, 3 oz 80 proof spirits) per day, no more than 14 per week, and no more than 4 on any one occasion. Even at that level, some people will get liver inflammation. Liver enzymes (ALT, AST) are very sensitive to inflammation and will generally be elevated.
