A member asked:

My son was just diagnosed with benign external hydrocephalus. what happens in this case?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Benign: This is a condition that is believed to be due to an immaturity of the spinal fluid recirculation process, that leads to an increase in the amount of spinal fluid around the brain in infancy. It requires no treatment in the majority of cases, 2/3 of cases happen to boys, and it usually resolves completely within 1-2 years. Close observation and repeat imaging studies over time are recommended
