Up to 6 months: It is very normal to get swelling only 9 weeks after a distal fibula ORIF. I tell my patients expect some swelling for at least 6 months and mild aches after walking for 3 months. Make sure to do your physiotherapy exercises to improve strength and motion. This will help. If you are getting worse swelling at the end of the day elevate the ankle to help reduce this.
